I'm about to buy a LCD HDTV MONITOR.Will i be able to use a VCR to view cable TV instead of a tuner?

LCD HDTV does not have a built in TV tuners, and I'd buy an external HDTV tuner to watch TV either digital or regular. I wonder if I can use a video player that has an RF port, and connect my monitor to view regular television. Will it work as well?
